Who We Are
Ujima Ministries is a 501(c)3 community benefit service agency that is also a New Jersey State Certified Faith Based Agency and a New Jersey State Certified Housing Development Organization affiliated with the Ujima Village Christian Church of Ewing, New Jersey.
What We Do
Since 1991, Ujima Ministries has been dedicated to enriching the lives of the people of the New Jersey Capital area through holistic, life empowering, initiatives.
Living Up to Our Name
We began as a Christian youth outreach, sharing the love of Christ with young people in the inner city of Trenton, New Jersey. The children and teens served in that initial community outreach selected the organization's name... "Ujima" (pronounced "oo-JEE-ma") which is a Swahili word referring to the collective life of a community, working together and assuming responsibility for one another. Our "village" approach is aimed at bonding people together for the common good, building an intergenerational, interracial, multi-cultural community.
Where We Are
Our main office is located in the Ujima Village on the boarder of Ewing Township and the City of Trenton in New Jersey. The Village is made up of: the Ujima Plaza, which is a 52-unit low and moderate income housing facility for senior and disabled citizens; the Ujima Village Christian Church, which is an independent Reformed Christian Congregation that grew from the fellowship of those involved in early years of the service agency; the Ujima Village Ministries Center; The Christian Mission School of Theology; and, Le Petit Infant Toddler Academy.
